Registered Nurse

Let the staff wear ppe if they feel they need to. We should never have to justify a situation in which we feel the need to protect ourselves. Ever. Especially with a disease that no one knew and still knows nothing about how to fight or protect against. If we are going to save lives, personally I dont need to be called a hero or be thanked. I want to feel protected and supported. And that was not the case from day 1.

Hi Ashley:

This is beyond imagining -- that there would be a place that would tell staff NOT to wear PPE! Was there any reason given?

In my former hospital, we were 100% not allowed to wear even a surgical mask, even if we brought it in ourselves during the whole month of March, unless they were on droplet precautions. It was the most ridiculous rule ever. The pandemic was blowing up 4 hours south of us in NYC and we were forbidden. So when the crisis continued and they were begging for help, I figured if I am going to risk my life it will be for the right reasons, not because I worked for one of the biggest health care corporations of America and they were too worried about the money. It was sad. Still is when you see how hospitals are treating the same staff they just called heros.
